Embracing A Holistic Lifestyle By Learning How To Cook From Scratch!

In our world it is SO EASY to eat processed foods, but I have recently found a desire to learn how to cook some basics from scratch. It’s a lost skill that is being revived and I am here for it! As an Integrative Health Practitioner, I believe that fostering a connection with our food and cooking from scratch is an essential component of overall well-being. Today, I want to share my recent culinary adventure – making homemade pizza from start to finish, including a delightful pizza sauce and a dough recipe that will have you savoring every bite.

The Heart of the Pizza: Homemade Sauce

Recipe: Easy Homemade Pizza Sauce

Ingredients:

  • 6 oz tomato paste

  • 15oz tomato sauce

  • 1 tbsp dried oregano

  • 2 tbsp Italian seasoning

  • 1 tsp garlic powder

  • 1/2 tsp onion powder

  • 1 tsp garlic salt

  • 1/4 tsp ground pepper

  • 1 tsp sugar- I used monk fruit

Instructions:

  1. Mix wet ingredients

  2. Add seasonings and mix

  3. Store in fridge

Crafting the Foundation: Foolproof Pizza Dough

I did this all by hand since I do not have a mixer, having a mixer would probably make it easier!

Recipe: Easy Pizza Dough

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups lukewarm water

  • 1 tbsp active yeast

  • 1 tbsp sugar

  • 4.5 cups of all purpose flower

  • 2 tsp salt

  • 1 tbsp avocado oil

Instructions:

  1. Dissolve the sugar in lukewarm water. Once the sugar is all dissolved, add the dry active yeast to water and let it bloom for about 10 minutes-this piece is important don’t skip it!

  2. while that is blooming, mix salt and 3 cups of flour in a sperate bowl.

  3. Add the yeast mixture to the flour and slowly add in the rest of the flour.

  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-10 minutes

  5. Coat the ball of dough with the avocado oil

  6. Loosely cover the bowl until it doubles in size

  7. Shape into pizza shape
